Baker McKenzie's Kyiv office remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals, even in these challenging times. The office cooperates with top Ukrainian universities to strengthen legal talent and empower future practitioners.
Continuing our tradition of supporting young talent, Baker McKenzie has awarded scholarships to four outstanding students for the 2024-2025 academic year. Two students are from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NUKMA), and two are from the Institute of Law and the Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University. We are proud to share that two of the scholarship recipients also took the opportunity to complete an internship at the Kyiv office.
Additionally, we are excited to sponsor the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy team as it participates in the 48th edition of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition, which will be held in The Hague from 4 June to 7 June 2025.
For the sixth consecutive year, our lawyers have delivered a guest course on commercial law for master's degree students in the Law Department of the NUKMA. Partner Andrii Moskalyk, Counsel Kseniia Prokhur and Associate Volodymyr Stetsenko have shared their practical experience through 10 lectures and six seminars, covering energy law, procedural law and compliance.
As a member of the Supervisory Board of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Managing Partner Serhiy Chorny participated in the Supervisory Board's meeting in December 2024.
Our impact on legal education extends further as we join the teaching staff of the International Law Department at the Institute of International Relations for the third academic year. Counsel Myroslava Koval-Lavok and Associates Anna Stepanowa and Oleksandr Savvi have been instrumental in delivering lectures and seminars on labor law, IP law, international financial law and international private law.
Since September 2022, we have also been providing a comprehensive study course on IP/IT law at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University. Partner Oleksiy Stolyarenko and Counsel Myroslava Koval-Lavok have organized an immersive learning experience through the Practical Law School, focusing on IP/IT law and data protection for master's degree students.
Additionally, this year, Myroslava Koval-Lavok served as a judge in the V National Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition organized by ELSA Kyiv.
For seven consecutive years, Counsel and Head of the Compliance and Investigations Practice Ario Dehghani has led the Anti-Corruption Compliance certificate course in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Research and Education Centre at NUKMA. Ario has also served as a senior lecturer in German law and international law courses at NUKMA and codirector of the German Law Institute at this university.
