Overview

Established in 2002, our Shanghai office forms part of our China Practice that has over 400 specialist lawyers. With a reputation as having the largest and most experienced China team of all the foreign law firms in the region, our China Practice has been actively involved in assisting domestic and foreign corporations with their array of legal issues in the region since the early 1970s. Our long-standing involvement in China has allowed us to establish strong working relationships with key personnel at the various regulatory authorities, enabling us to provide clients with up-to-date news on legal developments, and guidance on regulatory compliance requirements.

We have more than 120 lawyers and business professional staff in our Shanghai office, working closely with clients to meet their ever changing legal needs – efficiently and cost-effectively. Over recent years, we have developed a track record advising on some of most significant and award-winning transactions in China. Most notably, we have been active in foreign direct investments, mergers & acquisitions, corporate and commercial, capital markets, real estate, insurance, financial services, banking and finance, intellectual property, compliance, employment and tax.

We are also actively assisting many leading Chinese companies, including state-owned enterprises and China’s Fortune 100 companies on their outbound investment activities across a wide range of industry sectors. Our Chinese clients benefit not only from our extensive global network and experience in cross-border transactions, but also our familiarity with the unique transaction issues and concerns faced by Chinese companies when implementing outbound investment activities.

On 15 April 2015, Baker McKenzie and FenXun Partners received approval to establish the Baker McKenzie FenXun (FTZ) Joint Operation Office (“Baker McKenzie FenXun”) in the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone. It is the first joint operation that has been approved by the Shanghai Justice Bureau.

As one of the world's leading China legal platform, the Joint Operation provides clients with integrated international and PRC legal services. Staffed by both locally admitted and foreign-licensed lawyers from Baker McKenzie and FenXun Partners, the Joint Operation Office advises leading Chinese and multinational companies on both China domestic and cross-border issues across the full spectrum of corporate and commercial law.
