Biography

Dr. Andrea Soprano (née Braun) has more than seven years of work experience in restructuring and insolvency law. She joined Baker McKenzie as Counsel in February 2024. She was admitted to the German bar in 2017, working for a German law firm in the R&I team, most recently in the position of associated partner.

Andrea studied law as well as international business law in Erlangen, where she also received her doctorate degree (earning the science price sponsored by the Gravenbrucher Kreis, a renowned associations of insolvency administrators in Germany). She is the (co-)author of several publications in the field of restructuring and insolvency law.

Practice Focus

Andrea's practice focuses on international restructuring and insolvency law. She advises German and international companies, shareholders, creditors and other stakeholders from a wide range of industries comprehensively on all restructuring and insolvency law issues.

In particular, she regularly advises company management on legal risks and insolvency filing obligations in the event of a company crisis, financial institutions and investors on the financial restructuring of borrowers or in their insolvency proceedings, on trustee structures and on M&A transactions arising from the crisis or insolvency, both on the seller and the buyer side.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised self-administration management and custodian within insolvency proceedings of Aluminium Rheinfelden group companies on the sale of the business to RUSAL.
  • Advised the restructuring shareholder Team Treuhand GmbH on the takeover of the German railway business from Keolis.
  • Advised Condor Flugdienst GmbH in their insolvency proceedings and in connection with the sale of the shares in Condor by the London-based financial investor Attestor Capital.
  • Advised Wirecard on the initiation of insolvency proceedings over its assets and over the assets of its German subsidiaries.
  • Advised German subsidiaries of the UK-based Thomas Cook group during the out-of-court restructuring of the group and on the initiation of insolvency proceedings after the restructuring attempts had failed.
  • Advised the largest financial creditor in the insolvency proceedings of the Basler group.
