Kartik Singh
Biography
Kartik Singh is a senior associate in the Baker McKenzie Dispute Resolution team based in London. Kartik has represented clients in disputes across a wide range of industries including aviation, oil and gas, infrastructure and mining, pharmaceutical, and telecommunications. He has significant experience in both international commercial arbitrations and investment treaty disputes, including arbitrations under ICC, LCIA, SIAC, ICSID, CAS, DIAC, WIPO Arbitration Rules and ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Rules and the Arbitration Act 1996. Kartik also has experience in managing arbitrations seated in London, Singapore, Dubai, India, Geneva and Lausanne. He regularly advises on recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and obtaining interim remedies in support of the same from courts and arbitral tribunal.
Kartik is dual-qualified in both England & Wales and Singapore. Kartik practiced in the Singapore office of Baker McKenzie before moving to the Firm's London office in 2022.
Representative Legal Matters
- Acting for an investor in an ICSID arbitration against a state in relation to a port project.
- Acting for a company in an ICC arbitration against a state in relation to a port project.
- Acting for a leading state-owned Indian bank as one of the defendants to claims brought by the administrators of the collapsed NMC private healthcare fund both before the High Court and ADGM in a multibillion-dollar claim. The claims relate to a massive alleged fraud which is said to have resulted in the collapse of the fund.
- Acting for the licensee of one of the world's premier international sporting events, the largest annual event in team sport involving over 150 nations, in respect of a termination dispute by the licensor and sport's governing body. The claim for wrongful termination is being arbitrated under the rules of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
- Advising a multinational information technology company and its subsidiary on an LCIA arbitration with a European bank relating to a contract for the outsourcing and transformation of the bank’s retail banking business.
- Acting for a global energy company in satellite proceedings brought in breach of an arbitration agreement relating to the sale and purchase of crude oil in the context of sanctions.
- Acting for a global cement manufacturing company against a State organ in a dispute arising under a gas supply agreement under UNCITRAL Rules.
- Acting for a German engineering company in an India-seated IGCC arbitration under Indian law in relation to claims in excess of EUR 100 million arising from a technology transfer agreement regarding the use of the technology to manufacture an array of electric vehicles in India for sale in the EU market.
- Acting for a Zimbabwean forestry company against the Republic of Zimbabwe in connection with the enforcement of an ICSID award obtained against the State before the Singapore courts.
- Acting for a national airline and its related entity in Singapore-seated ICC and SIAC arbitrations under English and New York law in a dispute arising out of multiple aircraft lease agreements.
