Biography

Omar Mora Acosta has been a member of the Firm since 2022 and is part of the practice groups of Tax, Dispute Resolution and Capital Markets. He graduated top of his class, being recipient of Summa Cum Laude honors from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Caracas, where he is currently attending advanced graduate studies in Commercial Law. He has also earned awards in international competitions including the Philip C. Jessup international Law Moot Court Competition, and is currently the assistant professor in the class of Tax Law at the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello.

Omar began working as a law clerk and was promoted to associate at the Firm. He currently advises local and international clients on tax, finance, contracts, public law/regulatory matters, as well as on dispute resolution. Omar also has experience in the banking and finance, mines, and oil and gas sectors.

Practice Focus

Omar has actively participated in local and international markets advising clients of different sectors (i.e., oil & gas, banking & finance, transportation, technology, telecommunications, manufacturing, goods and services, others) on tax matters including cross-border transactions, analysis of tax consequences arising from different economic activities, and he has litigation experience in Venezuelan tax courts and administrative procedures. Also, he has advised high-profile clients on Public Law and regulatory issues for financial institutions, and on the analysis of U.S. Sanctions against Venezuela, including due diligence compliance processes. Omar’s current practice also includes advising clients on dispute resolution, including commercial litigation.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Participated advising a large cleaning products manufacturer and industrial cleaning services group and a multinational goods and services company on their litigations regarding Income Tax and Value Added Tax against the Venezuelan Tax Administration.
  • Advised international clients on tax policy matters and the tax consequences of certain economic activities.
  • Advised high profile financial institutions in regulatory procedures before the respective administrative organs. 
  • Advised local and international clients regarding the analysis of the U.S. Sanctions against Venezuela, their scope and application.
  • Participated Advising an international powerhouse of goods and services on a relevant commercial litigation.
