Biography

Roberto Cantú-Dessommes joined Baker McKenzie in 2011, and is currently an associate in the Firm's Transactional Practice Group. His background includes work for a law firm in San Diego, California and work as in-house counsel for a transnational company in Monterrey, Mexico.

Practice Focus

Roberto focuses mainly on construction, major projects, real estate and transactional law. He has extensive experience drafting and negotiating construction and related projects contracts, including EPC, EPCM, Equipment Supply, LTSAs, O&Ms, design and consultancy appointments, construction contracts, construction management and design/build arrangements. As well as drafting and advising on bespoke contracts, he regularly advices clients on AIA documents.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represent Firm's major client in connection with its worldwide multimillion construction projects, including drafting and negotiating complex design and construction documents using various pricing and project delivery models (design-bid-build, design-build, construction management, etc.).

  • Representation of various contractors and investors on the development (including equipment purchase, construction and operation and maintenance) of utility scale solar, battery storage and wind projects across the US.

  • Representation of multinational entities on international and domestic infrastructure, construction and real estate transactions.

  • Represented foreign entities doing business in Mexico, in the drafting, development and implementation of commercial, real estate and construction contracts.

  • Prepared and negotiated various promissory agreements and real estate agreements such as letters of intent, lease, purchase, construction and real estate trust agreements, among others.

  • Represented clients in the negotiation and preparation of tailored industrial, commercial and residential lease agreements.

  • Advised clients on unincorporation processes for properties located within a communal land system (ejido) in Mexico.

  • Advised clients in operations involving purchases of third party assets in several jurisdictions.

  • Conducted title studies.
