Baker McKenzie has been recognized for its outstanding work at the Asia Legal Awards 2025, hosted by Law.com International. The awards honor the most significant transactions, cases, and legal work that have shaped the industry across Asia.
Baker McKenzie was recognized for the following headline deals, which were awarded "Deals of the Year":
- Finance Deal of the Year – USD 1.6 billion project financing of Ørsted's and Cathay Life's 583MW Greater Changhua 4 (North-West) offshore wind farm in Taiwan
The Firm's Taipei office advised Cathay Life Insurance, Taiwan's largest insurance company, on its USD 1.6 billion acquisition of a 50% stake in the 583MW Greater Changhua 4 offshore wind farm, owned by Denmark's Ørsted Group, and on the project financing for its development. Led by Partners Gwyneth Gu, Jun Chen and Evangeline Wang, the core deal team also included Charlotte Chang, Sophia Huang and Peter Rowley.
- Private Equity Deal of the Year – Bain Capital – Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation USD 3.3 billion acquisition
The Firm supported Bain Capital in connection with its acquisition of Mitsubishi Tanabe Corporation. Led by Partner Derek Poon (Hong Kong), the core multijurisdictional team also included Curtis Tse and Steven Chen (Hong Kong), Purachate Manussiripen and Panyavith Preechabhan (Bangkok), Addy Herg and Denise Tia (Wong & Partners, Kuala Lumpur), Hao-Ray Hu and Julia King (Taipei), Daniel Pardede and Reagen Lodeweijke Mokodompit (HHP Law Firm, Jakarta).
In addition to the two deal awards, Financial Services Regulatory Principal Stephanie Magnus from member firm Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow in Singapore was named "Fintech and Digital Assets Lawyer of the Year".
A leading figure in financial services regulation and fintech law, Stephanie's work bridges fintech innovation and regulatory strategy across Asia. She has played a pivotal role in a number of landmark matters, including advising DBS, UBS and SBI on Singapore's first digital native bond pilot as part of Project Guardian by the Monetary Authority of Singapore; supporting digital wealth platform (StashAway) in its regional expansion (including Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubi); and advising Arta Wealth Management, a digital family office focusing on AI-enabled solutions, on regulatory licensing and cross-border partnerships and business operations in Singapore.
