Thando Thabethe is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Corporate M&A Practice Group in Johannesburg. He has experience advising clients on general corporate commercial law, corporate governance, due diligence investigations, corporate reorganizations, and mergers and acquisitions, across multiple industry sectors.
Practice Focus
Thando is a member of the Consumer Goods & Retail Industry Group of Baker McKenzie, as well as the Energy, Mining & Infrastructure Industry Group.
Within these industry groups, Thando tracks the latest trends and developments that have an impact on client business, and also assists the Firm in establishing and maintaining relationships with key clients operating within the aforementioned industries.
Representative Legal Matters
- Advised and assisted Apple (US) on its submission to the South African Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, on the "Draft White Paper on Audio and Audio-Visual Content Services Policy Framework: A New Vision for South Africa 2020."
- Advised Becton, Dickinson and Company (US) on the South African leg of a restructuring of their diabetes healthcare business.
- Advised Google LLC (US) on its submission to the South African Competition Commission, on the draft policy paper titled "Competition in the Digital Economy."
- Advised Merck & Co., Inc. (US) on the South African leg of the reorganization of their animal health division.
- Advised Olam International Limited in relation to the implementation of a reorganization and carve-out of their food ingredients business and global agri-business, which entailed implementing and coordinating intra-group transactions in South Africa, Cameroon and Mozambique.
- Advised various multinational companies on:
- company formation and post incorporation registrations
- corporate governance and related filings
- general commercial law advice
Corporate Responsibility
- Provided pro-bono assistance to the International Council of Environmental Law in relation to the Climate Change Litigation Project.
- Provided pro-bono assistance to the Consortium for Street Children, which included research on children's rights in various African jurisdictions, in view of reflecting the findings in the Legal Atlas for Street Children, published on www.streetchildren.org.
