Biography

Ian has over 18 years' experience advising banks and financial institutions, funds and corporates on a wide range of cross-border financing transactions, including acquisition and leveraged finance, fund finance, structured and general lending and special situations and restructuring transactions.

Ian is ranked as a leading lawyer for Banking and Finance in Chambers Asia Pacific and described in that publication as "one of the best lawyers in town" and a "brilliant lawyer" with "good technical ability" who has "forged a strong reputation . . . for his work on acquisition and leveraged finance transactions."

He has also been recognised as a "Next Generation Partner" for Banking and Finance in Legal 500 Asia Pacific and noted in that publication as being "increasingly active in advising banks and funds on fund finance facilities."

Ian has also been described in Legal 500 as a "very good lawyer," "highly experienced, calm under pressure and technically very strong" with the commentary noting he "provides excellent advice derived from years of experience across multiple markets and financings . . . the quality of output is excellent."

Ian is a member of the Fund Finance Association's Asia Pacific Executive Committee and is also a committee member on the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA) Singapore documentation committee and the APLMA India committee.

Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Ian worked in the Singapore office of another international law firm and, prior to that, worked in the Singapore and London offices of a Magic Circle law firm.

Practice Focus

Ian's practice focuses on advising clients on complex cross-border acquisition and leveraged finance, fund finance, structured and general lending and special situations and restructuring transactions. He has advised on transactions in all key jurisdictions in South and South East Asia and the wider Asia Pacific region and also has substantial experience advising on transactions relating to a variety of European jurisdictions and the US.
