Biography

Matt Rawlinson is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice Group in Houston. Matt brings extensive experience representing companies in complex construction, energy and commercial litigation matters, including upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas disputes, EPC contract disputes, construction defect disputes, alternative energy disputes, insurance and indemnity claims, breach of contract disputes, business torts and other general contractual matters.

He has represented clients in many state and federal courts as well as numerous arbitrations. He regularly works with EPC companies, investors, energy providers, project developers, underwriters and commodity trading firms to navigate the emerging issues that arise from energy and construction sector contracts.

Practice Focus

Matt represents a broad array of clients in complex construction, energy and commercial litigation matters, including oil and gas disputes, EPC contract disputes, construction defect disputes, alternative energy disputes, insurance and indemnity claims, breach of contract disputes, business torts and other general contractual matters.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented software company in dispute with licensee regarding breach of contract claims arising from third-party use of the software in Texas federal court. 
  • Negotiated settlement for oil and gas lessor arising out of significant underpayment of royalties in West Virginia.
  • Acted for limited partners and partnership in dispute arising out of an EPC project in Guyana in arbitration.
  • Represented an international EPC contractor in connection with construction and contract disputes, including a multiweek trial in Maryland.
  • Represented a general contractor of a senior living facility involving both contractual payment claims and construction defect claims in Texas.
  • Represented numerous companies in disputes related to the development and construction of wind and solar projects including ongoing lawsuit in Texas federal court.
  • Acted as outside general counsel for a central plant manufacturing, maintenance and monitoring company that focuses on creating and operating greener hot and cold water systems for residential and commercial projects.
