Dr. Kaspar Projer
Biography
Kaspar Projer is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Litigation & Dispute Resolution and International Trade & Commerce practice groups in Zurich. He is also a member of the Swiss Investigations, Compliance & Ethics team.
Kaspar obtained degrees from the University of St. Gallen (M. A. in Law and Economics, 2010), the University of Zurich (Dr. iur., 2017) and the University College London (LL.M., with distinction, 2019). Prior to joining the Firm in 2019, he worked as a law clerk at the District Court of Winterthur, as an associate lecturer and research assistant at the University of Zurich, and for several years as an associate at a major law firm in Zurich. Kaspar was admitted to the bar in 2013.
Practice Focus
Kaspar's practice further focuses on compliance advice and investigations. His practice covers a broad range of compliance areas, including export controls and both international and Swiss sanctions, anti-money laundering, and anti-bribery and corruption. As far as trade matters are concerned, he regularly advises in relation to import and export matters, as well as EU and Swiss export controls and trade sanctions. Kaspar also has significant experience in managing and advising on clients' interactions with a range of public bodies, such as enforcement authorities in the trade and sanctions area. For example, Kaspar has represented a broad range of clients in investigations and enforcement proceedings initiated by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
In addition, Kaspar has significant experience in various matters relating to criminal law. He represents clients in a multitude of proceedings conducted by criminal authorities in both general criminal law and public criminal law. As such, he acts as a legal representative for parties who appear as defendants in such proceedings and as a legal counsel to natural and legal persons who had suffered harm.
Representative Legal Matters
- Provided a wide range of companies with Russia sanctions compliance advice, including divestments and exports from Russia, and applications for various trade sanctions licenses to Swiss and EU authorities.
- Advised several companies from the industrial, manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors on voluntary disclosures before SECO in connection with alleged export control or trade sanctions.
- Assisted several Switzerland-based and multinational companies in contract litigations resulting from trade sanctions imposed on former counterparties.
- Provided advice in relation to the establishment of various compliance frameworks and guidelines.
