Biography

Azlan is a Local Principal at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow in Singapore. He specializes in complex, cross-border M&A transactions and Joint Ventures in the Energy, Natural Resources, Major Infrastructure, Digital Infrastructure and Healthcare sectors.

Azlan is highly regarded by his clients and has more than 13 years of experience advising clients navigate complex regulatory regimes, advise on deal structuring, and drafting and negotiating their transaction documents.

He has previously been seconded in-house to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and AMP Capital, assisting each with their energy and infrastructure transactions. These experiences have made Azlan remain always steadily focused on the commercial objectives of the client.

He has previously worked for top-tier international firms across Sydney, London and Singapore, and is fluent in English, Bahasa Melayu and conversational Bahasa Indonesian.

Energy

  • Advised APA Group with respect to the AUD 13 billion (USD 9.8 billion) offer from Hong Kong's Cheung Kong Infrastructure (CKI) Group.
  • Advised Denham Capital for its USD 605 million sale of Nexif Energy to RATCH Group PLC.
  • Advised SUSI Partners on its acquisition of a 39MW wind farm in Vietnam from Scatec ASA.

Natural Resources

  • Advised Vale Canada Limited in its 14% stake sale to Indonesia’s mining industry holding company, MIND ID (with Sumitomo Mining and Metals remaining as a minority shareholder). 
  • Advised CGA Mining on its CAD 1.1 billion merger with B2Gold Corp. by way of Scheme of Arrangement.

Major Infrastructure

  • Advised a consortium of ADIA, CPPIB, Australian Super and Transurban on its AUD 11 billion (USD 8 billion) bid for the WestConnex Sydney toll road project in New South Wales. 
  • Advised Collimate Capital (formerly AMP Capital) on the AUD 225 million sale of its infrastructure equity funds and portfolios to Dexus.

Digital Infrastructure

  • Advised Big Data Exchange (backed by I Squared) on their USD 300 million acquisition of data centers in Indonesia from Indosat.
  • Advised a large private equity fund on its USD 1 billion bid for fibre network assets in Indonesia proposed to be sold by Indosat.

Healthcare

  • Advised Brookfield for its USD 3.3 billion acquisition of Healthscope Limited, the second largest private hospital operator in Australia and the largest pathology services provider in New Zealand.
