Biography

Sylvain Godinet is Counsel in Baker McKenzie’s Geneva office.

Sylvain has been practicing for more than 20 years in the areas of tax, accounting, corporate finance and international structuring. He gained his experience in law firms and accounting firms (Big 4s) as well as in-house, holding the positions of General Counsel and Head of Tax for several multinational enterprises active in the commodity trading industry. Sylvain has also been external director and member of the board of directors of several companies active in the commodity trading and shipping industry.

Sylvain also worked for banks and financial institutions. He notably participated in the Lehman Brother Inc. bankruptcy procedure, in the so-called "Swiss Bank Program" from the United States Department of Justice (working in-house for a Swiss private bank), in the implementation of the OECD BEPS Pillar II and in various sales and restructuring of Swiss private banks.

For eight years, Sylvain teaches tax law at the University of Applied Science of Western Switzerland (HES-SO).

Practice Focus

Sylvain advises multinational enterprises in direct tax and indirect tax matters, including tax rulings, tax structuring, tax accounting, tax litigation and employee stock ownership plans.

Sylvain is highly experienced in the commodity trading industry and the banking and finance industry.
