Phil is an associate in our Firm's North America Employment and Labor Group and is based in our Los Angeles office.
Practice Focus
Phil concentrates his practice on employment and labor litigation and arbitration, and advising employers to ensure compliance with California labor law. He handles a variety of disputes, including wage and hour class action and PAGA claims, single plaintiff discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, and employment-related trade secret claims.
Representative Legal Matters
Prior to joining the Firm, Phil advised on the following matters:
- Won a complete defense verdict during a bench trial against client’s former employee claiming unpaid performance bonus.
- Won a complete defense victory at arbitration defending an employer in a former employee’s suit alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination claims. The former employee sought USD 10 million in damages and the panel sided with the employer.
- Defended an energy-infrastructure company against a former employee’s wage-and-hour class action and PAGA representative action, resulting in a global settlement and release valued at less than 5 percent of potential damages exposure.
- Defended a telecommunications company against a former employee’s wage and hour class action and PAGA representative action, resulting in a settlement valued at less than 10 percent of potential exposure.
- Won a permanent injunction against a former oil and gas executive accused of stealing trade secrets and illegally competing against his then-current employer.
- Achieved a walk-away settlement for an employer accused of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination by a former employee who sought millions in damages.
- Achieved a settlement of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation arbitration valued at less than 5 percent of plaintiff’s damages claim.
- Successfully dismissed parent-corporation from lawsuit alleging joint-employment by former employee alleging wrongful termination and discrimination in federal court.
- Recovered the value of a financial institution’s trade secrets—to the tune of an eight-figure settlement—after they were stolen by former employees by achieving a TRO and preliminary injunction.
- Achieved a walk-away settlement for a company accused of breach of contract by the company’s former vendor, which sought millions in damages.
