Biography

Mr. Chung is a partner in Baker McKenzie & KL Partners Joint Venture Law Firm and is also a member of the Firm's Korea Group. He has been advising Korean clients on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and general corporate matters.

Practice Focus

Mr. Chung's practice focuses on cross-border M&A and joint venture transactions with a particular focus on investments by Korean companies in the manufacturing, technology, energy and social infrastructure sectors.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised CJ E&M on its acquisition of a controlling interest in Eccho Rights, a Swedish media company.
  • Advised Hyundai Motor Company on its joint venture with Public Investment Fund (PIF), a Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, to establish a new automotive manufacturing plant valued at USD 500 million in Saudi Arabia.
  • Advised Hyundai Motor Company on its strategic partnership and acquisition of a passenger vehicle assembly plant in Vietnam from Thanh Cong Group. 
  • Advised Hyundai Motor Group on its minority investment into H2 Mobility, a leading hydrogen infrastructure company.
  • Advised LG Electronics on its Series B investment into SideChef Group Limited, a digital cooking platform.
  • Advised Samsung Electronics on its acquisition of a mobile data saving software and other assets from Opera Software A.S, and related licensing, cloud hosting and other commercial arrangements.
  • Advised SK E&S on its acquisition of interests in Darwin LNG valued over USD 1 billion from Santos Limited in Australia.
  • Advised SK E&S on its USD 110 million investment in a bio-ethanol Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) project developed by Summit Agricultural Group in Midwestern United States.
  • Advised SK E&S on its sale of 49% interest valued over USD 1 billion in its wholly own subsidiary (Paju Energy Service), which owns and operates one of the largest natural gas-fired power plants in Korea to Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO).
  • Advised SKC on its Series A investment and joint venture with Applied Materials to form Absolics Inc., a glass substrate manufacturing company.
