Biography

Monica Chao is a partner at Baker McKenzie's Taipei office and is a core member of the Intellectual Property (IP) team.

She has extensive experience in the IP field, covering various advisory and business-oriented services, including brand protection (trademark, copyright, licensing, etc.), brand portfolio management, and IP dispute resolution through both non-litigation and civil/criminal litigation. Monica is also well knowledgeable in handling multinational companies in the luxury, high-tech, and consumer products industries with IP management and enforcement in Taiwan.

Furthermore, Monica is currently serving as the co-chair of the Luxury Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (ECCT) and the board director of the Taiwan Trademark Association (TTA).

Representative Legal Matters

Intellectual property

  • Attending brand enforcement actions, including Taiwan Customs recordals, and coordinating the seizure of counterfeit products with the Customs and IP Police Team.

  • Handling trademark prosecution cases for famous luxury, high-tech and consumer goods brands and other leading international companies.

  • Undertaking legal research on a broad range of civil, criminal and intellectual property cases, including new IP Tech.

Dispute resolution

  • Representing famous luxury, high-tech and consumer goods companies in IP cases at the IPC Court.

  • Handling brand protection work for famous luxury, high-tech and consumer goods brands in copyright and trademark cases.
