Biography
Stephan is a Special Counsel in Baker McKenzie’s Australian Banking & Finance Group with over 12 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry.
Stephan’s focus is on lending (corporate, fund and consumer), debt capital markets, securitisation and financial services.
Stephan brings his experience gained in Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia in both private practice and in-house as general counsel for the Credit Suisse AG and UBS AG Australian wealth management businesses to deliver comprehensive, practical and commercial legal advice and support for his clients.
Stephan also has advised financial services companies on implementation of mergers and acquisitions in Australia and has extensive practical experience on Australian financial services regulation, licensing and regulatory engagement and remediation programs.

- Securitisation
- Acting for MUFG on note repackaging transactions involving underlying Australian assets;
- Advising HSBC on the establishment of receivables financing facilities in Australia;
- Acting as arranger counsel to Standard Chartered Bank in respect of PRC offshore hybrid asset finance securitisations;
- Acting as arranger counsel to ANZ in respect of its 1855 securitisation programme.
- Debt finance
- Advising Angus Knight Group on its debt funding facilities;
- Acting for Delta Electricity on its refinancing with multiple lenders;
- Acting for UBS AG, ANZ and Westpac on multiple Australian and cross border structured finance transactions;
- Advising multiple lenders on the establishment of margin, real property mortgage and CHESS Sponsor Broker lending products;
- Acting for various Australian funds in respect of lending activities to third parties and sub-funds.
- Debt Capital Markets
- Acting for several Taiwanese banks establishing EMTN and Commercial Paper programmes;
- Acting as dealer counsel under the Standard Chartered EMTN programme;
- Advising on regulatory capital issuances for Royal Bank of Scotland, Standard Charted Bank and Nykredit Bank;
- Acting as issuer counsel to Syngenta AG and Rabobank under their EMTN programmes.
