Biography

Laura Bortels is a member of Baker McKenzie's Public Law Practice Group in Berlin. She focuses her practice on national and international infrastructure projects and all aspects of construction law. Laura advises clients on contract law and represents companies and public authorities in litigation procedures. Laura joined Baker McKenzie in 2018. Prior to joining the Firm she practiced at an international law firm based in Munich.

Practice Focus

Laura specialises in private construction law. Her focus is on advising clients conducting major construction projects in the fields of infrastructure and commercial buildings.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised a Berlin based airport operator on one of Germany’s largest construction projects in the infrastructure sector as well as in subsequent litigation proceedings with a dispute value of aprox. EUR 400 Mio..

  • Advised a major client form the public sector at the interface to public procurement law with regard to the conception and drafting of a contract regulating project management, planning and execution services for the renovation of a building complex in a central city location in Berlin.

  • Defended a federal state IT service provider in a post tender litigation against claims for contract adjustment and additional remuneration as well as damages amounting to several million euros due to alleged violations of procurement law.

  • Represented various general contractors in litigation procedures in the field of commercial and residential construction.

  • Regularly advises construction companies on contractual and strategic aspects, contentious as well as non-contentious.
