Biography

Simone Blackadder is a special counsel in Baker McKenzie's IP Tech team in Sydney.

Simone has been with Baker McKenzie since 2010. In her time at Baker McKenzie, Simone has spent 3 years working in London (2017-2020).

Practice Focus

Simone focuses on providing commercial contracting advice for service and outsourcing arrangements. Simone also provides advice on regulatory and privacy issues for IT, online, financial services and technology businesses. Simone regularly advises on cyber security, including compliance and cyber response incidents.

While in London, Simone worked with many businesses seeking to navigate its obligations under its contracting arrangements as well as data, tech regulatory and GDPR implementation.

Key industry sectors in which Simone works are TMT, consumer goods and retail and financial sectors.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advising several businesses in various industries on multijurisdictional cybersecurity incidents from initial detection through to reviewing the businesses compliance procedures following the incident.
  • Preparing data breach notifications and managing the notification and investigation process with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and data breach notification regulators in various jurisdictions.
  • Advising several businesses on the application of the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act to their business and in particular interplay with regulation of their customers.
  • Acting as privacy and consumer product review counsel for several online businesses, including for online platforms, consumer goods and services and B2B sales to advise on data privacy, marketing, advertising and regulatory issues with new product offerings (or the expansion of product offerings into new markets).
  • Advising Equinix in several jurisdictions including in Australia, Japan, Korea, UK, Europe, America and Mexico over several years on Equinix's commercial services agreements for its hyperscale data investment projects with GIC and PGIM.
  • Advising NTT on its services agreements for its strategic real estate partnership for data centres with Macquarie Asset Management announced 2022.
  • Advising on commercial, technology and data protection aspects of corporate transactions, including advising and negotiating transitional services agreements for the same.
  • Advising technology and financial technology service providers on its supply arrangements with its customers, including government agencies and regulated entities such as banks.
  • Advising a health-tech company on implementing template service agreements and data privacy compliance across APAC and the EU as the business expands into new markets.
  • Advising several businesses on the application of the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act to their business, including data storage providers and businesses in the energy sector.
  • Advising a multinational payment system organisation on its card processing services, value added offerings and agreements as well as its procurement, sponsorship and alliance arrangements throughout the Asia Pacific Region and its agreements with many high-profile individuals.
