Biography

Andrew is an associate in the Baker McKenzie dispute resolution team in Sydney, focusing on competition and consumer law matters.  Andrew won the 2024 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Award for Competition, Trade and Regulation for Australia. He was also recognized by Australasian Lawyers as a 2024 ‘Rising Star’.

Andrew has previously advised clients on competition investigations, enforcement litigation and regulatory matters. He also assists clients with complex merger clearances and advises on consumer issues including misleading and deceptive conduct, consumer guarantees, advertising, unconscionable conduct and compliance with the Australian Consumer Law.

Andrew is passionate about the intersection between the law and technology and maintains a contemporary understanding of developments taking place in this space. 

Representative Legal Matters

Andrew has assisted on a number of matters and has experience working closely with clients, experts and counsel. His detailed understanding of technology-related developments (including responsible AI use in litigation) enables him to quickly understand the complex issues which often arise in the matters which he assists.

Notable matters Andrew has assisted on include:

  • Assisted a multinational software company enforce its legal right to payment via a successful dispute resolution process involving negotiation and mediation.
  • Assisted an Australian retailer in responding to a multi-year ACCC investigation, leading to the closure of the investigation without penalty.
  • Delivered in-house lawyer training to various clients regarding the responsible use of AI in practice and litigation.  
  • Assisted clients' marketing and customer care teams by reviewing advertising calendars and proposed promotions for compliance with the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Advised clients in respect of complex section 50 merger clearances and secured ACCC clearance as part of a broader global transaction.
  • Advised clients in respect of ACCC investigations concerning alleged contraventions of the Australian competition and consumer laws (including misleading and deceptive conduct).

  • Global Rights for Women - Andrew is involved in the research and drafting of a jurisdictional guide to Australian domestic violence laws.
