Biography

Ryan Alho is a director designate in Baker McKenzie's Corporate M&A Practice Group in Johannesburg.

Practice Focus

Ryan focuses on private M&A and private equity transactions across various industries, including renewable energy, consumer, education, waste management and property development.

Ryan also routinely advises on black economic empowerment (BEE) transactions.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised The Coca-Cola Company on the creation of an African bottling company with SABMiller and Gutsche Family Investments with an estimated value of USD 3 billion, and on the subsequent exit of SABMiller as controlling shareholder of the newly formed bottling company.*
  • Advised The Coca-Cola Company on the acquisition by its subsidiary, Waveside, of the Valpré bottling plant from South African Breweries Limited, acting through ABI, its soft drinks division.*
  • Advised Denham Capital and BioTherm Energy on the disposal of their Round 4 REIPPP (South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme) investments and their African renewable energy platform to Actis.*
  • Advised Denham Capital and BioTherm Energy on the disposal of their Round 1 REIPPP (South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme) investments to Sun Edison / Terraform Global.*
  • Advised Séché Environnement on the acquisition of the Spill Tech group of companies.* 
  • Advised Pele Green Energy in relation to an asset-for-share with H1 Capital involving the Soetwater, Nxuba, Karusa, Oyster Bay and Garob wind projects in South Africa.*
  • Advised ADvTECH Group Limited on the acquisition of Monash South Africa.*
  • Advised Balwin Properties Limited, a JSE-listed company, on a ZAR 215 million black economic empowerment (BEE) transaction.*
  • Advised Attacq Limited, a JSE-listed company, on a major black economic empowerment (BEE) transaction.*
  • Advised Simacel Proprietary Limited in respect of STANLIB and Navitas Holdings’ acquisition of Simacel’s stake in various solar photovoltaic plants.*
