Biography

Marilyn is an associate in the Intellectual Property, Data and Technology team based in London. She joined Baker McKenzie as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2020 and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in September 2022. During her training, Marilyn was seconded to Baker McKenzie's Dubai office for six months and later to Google's commercial legal team for six months.

Marilyn sits on the Steering Committee of Baker McKenzie's race and ethnicity network, BakerEthnicity.

Practice Focus

Marilyn's practice covers a range of data and technology issues, with a particular focus on digital regulation, consumer law, data privacy and the intersection between privacy and new technologies.

She has experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a particular interest in the healthcare, CG&R and TMT sectors.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Providing complex advice to a number of new media, social and online platform clients in relation to the EU's Digital Services Act, Data Act and AI Act.
  • Advising on issues relating to AI governance, the training and deployment of AI models and the regulation of AI, particularly in relation to the intersection with obligations under the EU/UK GDPR.
  • Advising a number of new media, social and online platform clients in relation to content moderation issues.
  • Conducting a privacy maturity assessment for a multinational technology company renowned for its innovation. 
  • Drafting a range of data protection policies for a digital health platform.
  • Assisting a number of clients with responses to data breaches/incidents.
  • Advising a number of clients in relation to compliance with UK/EU consumer protection legislation, including the UK Consumer Rights Act, the UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, and the EU Omnibus Directive.
