We were honored to join with our pro bono client, Every Woman Treaty, at the United Nations on Friday, March 14 as they presented at a standing-room only conference at the 69th Session of the Commission the Status of Women entitled, Towards a New Optional Protocol to CEDAW: Strengthening International Protection Against Violence Against Women and Girls. Susan Eandi and Angela Vigil represented the Firm alongside leaders from around the world, including ambassadors, UN representatives from several nations, as well as the current and former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, its Causes and Consequences.

Violence against women and girls is the most widespread human rights violation globally. Nearly 75% of women worldwide live without the protection of a global, legally binding instrument specifically addressing violence against women and girls.

Baker McKenzie works with our pro bono client, Every Woman Treaty, to advocate urgently for strengthened and concerted international action through a new Optional Protocol dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

To that end, for the past four years, Baker McKenzie lawyers and professionals along with our clients have built an international database as just one of our pro bono projects in service to this critical issue. Together, we have analyzed the state of systems that address domestic, sexual and intimate partner violence across the world in service to global campaign to secure a specific, binding international framework tailored to the complexities of gender-based violence.
