Baker McKenzie’s Taipei office is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, the Firm is hosting a series of events and initiatives that highlight the positive impact it has made in Taiwan over the past five decades, as well as how Baker McKenzie is working with clients and the local community to “Focus on the Future”— the theme of the 50th anniversary celebration. This theme underscores the Firm’s commitment to working with clients and the local community in Taiwan to shape a brighter future.

The year-long celebration campaign kicked off with a gala dinner held on 21 February, attended by close to 400 guests, including longstanding clients, Baker McKenzie lawyers, and friends of the Firm. At the event, the office announced the release of its commemorative book, which documents the Firm’s years of success in assisting businesses from all sectors to successfully navigate complex legal issues arising from cross-border investments and local and international regulatory compliance requirements. The book features 20 client case studies and insights from senior business leaders from Taiwan’s leading conglomerates and multinationals. It highlights the office’s mission to support clients in achieving their strategic goals and being a business partner that can respond to their future needs.

In his speech at the dinner, Baker McKenzie Global Chair Milton Cheng congratulated Taipei colleagues on this milestone anniversary, and thanked our clients for their support and partnership over the years. He highlighted the office’s growth over the past 50 years, noting its rise as a market-leading international firm. Cheng attributed this success to the Taipei team’s dedication and commitment to serving our clients, delivering a full-service offering underpinned by a connected global experience, industry-leading expertise, and first-rate local market insights.

Seraphim Ma, managing partner of the Firm's Taipei office, said: “Our clients’ success is our success. Over the years, we have been regularly called upon by Taiwanese companies to assist with their domestic legal matters and global expansions, and we have advised multinational companies on their inbound investments into Taiwan. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our clients for their trust in us as their business partner. Through our book, we commemorate the many journeys to success that we have been on together."

Seraphim continued: "As we look ahead to the next 50 years, we remain committed to bringing our best-in-class teams from Taiwan and Baker McKenzie’s global network  to support our clients as they navigate risks and seize opportunities in today’s fast-changing global economy. We are also excited to continue our partnerships with the public and private sectors to contribute to Taiwan’s growth and build a bright future for our clients, our people, and the broader local community.”

The yearlong celebration also includes a series of industry forums hosted by Baker McKenzie, where the Firm’s legal experts in Taiwan and across the global network will join industry peers and business leaders to discuss trending issues and developments impacting businesses across various sectors, and how companies can prepare for the future. The first forum, scheduled for 6 March, will focus on the evolving developments in cybersecurity, AI and data privacy, and their implications for businesses, particularly those with e-commerce operations.

The Taipei office has a long history of contributing to the wider community through legal training and professional development for Taiwan-based legal talent. As part of the celebration campaign, the office will collaborate with leading universities and high schools in Taiwan to host youth camps. These camps will provide students the opportunity to learn about the legal profession and hear from our lawyers about their journeys to becoming lawyers and their experiences working in a global law firm.
