Baker McKenzie's Global Executive Committee Member, Peerapan Tungsuwan, spoke to the Nikkei about the Firm's plan to open an office in India.
"We are keen to be one of the first international law firms to set up a local presence in India as soon as permitted to do so by the Bar Council of India," Peerapan said, citing demand fueled by economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" initiative.
With a track-record of advising clients on international law in relation to their India-related cross-border investments for over 60 years, Baker McKenzie has long been an advocate of a greater international legal presence in India, and is eagerly awaiting the release by the Bar Council of India of the application forms and related process to open an office in India.
