Baker McKenzie Partner José Moran has been named to the list of 2024 Notable Leaders in Sustainability by Crain's Chicago Business. This award recognizes professionals who have made a measurable environmental impact and significant contributions to sustainability, and have demonstrated leadership in professional organizations and community service initiatives.
At Baker McKenzie, José serves on the Global Steering Committees for the firm's Projects Practice Group, Energy, Mining and Infrastructure Industry Group and Transactional Practice Group. Amid the ever-evolving global energy market, his practice focuses on market-leading and transformational deals in the renewable energy and clean technology sectors. Both on behalf of project sponsors and lenders, José has led moving complex projects through development, project financing and operation.
In a recent deal led by José, Baker McKenzie represented Iberdrola, the leading private generator of renewable energy in Mexico, in its agreement to sell part of its combined cycle gas operations in Mexico for USD 6 billion. The company continues to be the main private generator of renewable energy in Mexico and this operation aligns with their decarbonization commitments.
José also provides pro bono counsel to a number of organizations, including the Alliance for the Great Lakes on the continued operation and legal requirements of the Great Lakes Compact project, whose mission is to ensure sound water management within the region.
