HHP Law Firm ("HHP") and Baker McKenzie advised Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, the Indonesia Investment Authority ("INA"), on its equity joint venture with GDS Holdings Ltd ("GDS"), a leading data center developer and operator in Asia, to establish a vehicle to co-invest in the development of a nationwide data center platform in Indonesia.
Both INA and GDS entered into a definitive agreement on 16 October 2023 at the China-Indonesia Business Forum. Indonesia's President Mr. Joko Widodo witnessed the signing ceremony.
The partnership, which marks INA's third significant investment in the digital sectors, is aimed at propelling the growth and advancement of Indonesia's data center landscape, a key strategic priority for the sovereign wealth fund.
The first project to be completed as part of the joint venture is the ongoing development of Indonesia's first hyperscale data center campus in Batam's Nongsa Digital Park (NDP), which will bring key advantages for the country's digital transformation as well as in helping with growing data demands of neighboring Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore.
The HHP and Baker McKenzie team was led by Gerrit Jan Kleute, who was supported by Christofer Chandra and Rahel Olivia Manurung.
