In anticipation of the 2023 market rebound in the demand for financial services, leading global law firm Baker McKenzie announces today the hire of London-based finance partner, Anthony Kay, who brings significant experience and client relationships in the EMEA-wide syndicated lending and direct lending markets. His hire bolsters the continued growth of Baker McKenzie's leveraged finance offering, which covers a full range of bank and bond financial products across industries and jurisdictions, supported by its vast global network of offices.
Anthony, who joins from Orrick, has particular expertise in advising private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies, corporate borrowers and lenders on their financing matters, with a focus on acquisition and leveraged finance and direct lending.
Baker McKenzie's Banking & Finance team provides integrated English and New York law advice to sponsors, corporate issuers, investment banks and private credit funds on leveraged finance transactions. The Firm's London team is highly experienced in helping its clients across the whole panoply of leveraged finance - including public and private acquisitions, high yield bonds and recapitalisations, with a practice that covers the full spectrum of English and New York law governed loans and bonds, including Term Loan B, direct lending (both unitranche and US private placements) and high-yield bonds.
Commenting on the hire, Ed Poulton, Baker McKenzie's London Managing Partner, said:
"During uncertain economic times, it is all the more crucial for us to build out our experience in special situations, distressed investments and restructurings. Anthony and his specialist skillset will be a huge asset to an already strong and talented team within our Banking and Finance practice. "
Matthew Dening, Global Chair of the Firm's Banking & Finance practice group, said:
"Our Banking & Finance practice has been at the forefront of helping our clients capture value from the convergence across the full range of leveraged finance products and Anthony's arrival will bolster our offering to clients. We are very excited about his arrival and look forward to all that he will bring to our team."
The hire of Anthony follows a number of recent lateral appointments at Baker McKenzie, including Vinod Bange from Taylor Wessing, Sarah Smith from Dechert LLP, Ash Tiwari and Rakesh Rathod from A&O, former UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, Andrew Hedges, who joined from Norton Rose Fulbright, Oliver Jefferies from Stephenson Harwood, Stephanie Pantelidaki, who joined as Head of Financial Services Transfer Pricing in the Firm's tax practice from PwC, and Leverage Finance partner Ben Wilkinson who joined from White & Case.
